When you get to be a more advanced player, your band mates might callout some chord. The ability to quickly find it on the neck requires a lot of small puzzle pieces to fall together. One piece is to find the root note, or tonic of that chord on the low E string.
Memorizing this small piece of information early in your guitar learning, will help you lots in the coming years.
