tuning video

In the video relative tuning is explained in detail and how to practice it. We did not make this video and if you enjoyed it you should definitely visit the maker on youtube and checkout his channel.

Tuning

Tuning your guitar with an electronic tuner or a tuner app on your phone is super easy and convenient. But what if you find yourself with a dead battery and an out of tune guitar.

Relative tuning

If your not playing with any other instruments, you can just tune your guitar relative to the low E string. With this technique you start on the Low E string and play the 5th fret. Then you play the string underneath, they should sound the same. If not turn the tuning knob of the A string until they do! Continue with this on the other strings, click through our animations on the guitar-neck above and watch the video for detailed information.

With the band

As soon as you start playing with other people you all need to be tuned the same. This means a electronic tuner will really ease your life but, you could ask one of your band members to play a low E. Tune your low E by ear to this ringing note. And then you can follow the relative tuning instructions above. Your guitar should then be in tune with the rest of the band.
